The LAST week and Leaving Ceremony

So this is how the last few days will go:

Monday:
Block 1 we will be rehearsing our entrance and stage walk for the leaving ceremony. The Grade 7s who are MCing will be practicing their lines.
Block 2 to 5 Fun Day at Stan Jones - Basically sports day for teens, so dress appropriately.

Tuesday:

The Leaving Ceremony
You should have received an invitation, but here are the details if that didn't make its way home:

Parents and families are invited to watch the leaving and awards ceremony from 10:30 to 12:30.

Students are asked to bring one dish or food item for a student potluck lunch and dance that will run from 12:30 to 3pm. If you have time, make a dish, if you don't, buy a bag of chips and a dip, a bag of snap peas, etc.

Many thanks to the team of Grade 8s who organized and planned this leaving ceremony. You really are the leaders of tomorrow and I am so proud of you.

FINAL Homework/Studying

Over the weekend, students should:

-Finish their "Meanwhile In" Social Studies project which is due on Monday, June 20th

-Study for the Math final by doing practice sets.

-Study for the Social Studies final by doing the practice test (the test is on the Social Studies page).

Please note: many students took my advice and finished their projects in Social Studies for today. It is no surprise that according to my notes, these students used class time to complete the bulk of the project. Other students were less productive and now they are feeling the pinch. The big lesson here is "use your time efficiently". It will make High School that much easier.

Here is what your week looks like. You should be working on your Social Studies project at home Div. 5.

Monday: Business as usual. For English (Div 5 and 6), we will be presenting Outsider's final projects and be reading the narrative version of  "A Midsummer's Night Dream". For Div 2 Social Studies, we will be working on the "Meanwhile in" project. This project is due on June 20th for both Div 2 and 5. The Social Studies Final is June 23rd. However, if you are on time and achieve an A or B for your final project, you can wave the final exam. In other words, you don't need to do it.

Tuesday: If you have an I, report to Ms Wien's class. You will be asked to finish outstanding work and to work on current assignments. Studying for your Science Final is advised. If you do not come, it will be counted as non participation and it may impact your final grade.

If you are camping, come to the French Beach Group site at 9am. Remember to bring a pack lunch for this day. We have bought your dinner, breakfast and lunch on Wednesday with the $7 you paid.

Wednesday: If you have an I, report to Ms Wien's class for another day to work on missing and, upcoming assignments. Studying for your Science Final is advised.

Thursday: Commonwealth Pool. Pack a suit and a lunch. Please return money and forms for this event. Your teachers will be at the Commonwealth, so there are no teachers at school to supervise you. This is a year end bonding event.

Theatre and Juro!

Our class will be going to EMCS to watch this year's musical theatre production. Some of our classmates are in the play. My daughter made some of the props. It truly is a community venture.

Tomorrow is also Juro. You will be competing in our school's annual soccer tournament.

Our colours are green and orange. Wear green if you don't have orange. We can face paint ourselves up some orange. ;-)

Come be entertained and be entertaining.

This week, June 6th to 10th

Congratulations to all those families who had kids graduate this weekend from EMCS.

Calendar Notes:

I Day Deadline June 7th (as indicated on your camp notice). Some of you have I's in English. Parents were emailed. If  you miss the June 7th deadline, you have to come to school to do make up work on the Tuesday and Wednesday. This is in place of District I days. We need to finalize our numbers for the French Beach staff. They have deadlines that we have to observe and do not offer extensions.

Hopefully all of us will be at camp June 14th and 15th

Please check Mme Abell's site for an exam schedule for Math and Science/ Plus, clear up missed work for her so that you can go to camp!

Social Studies Final June 23rd (we will review in class)

Academic Notes:

English: We will be looking at the master of the monologue, Shakespeare. We will read and view Midsummer's Night Dream.

Social Studies: You will be given project time for Meanwhile in. Plus, we will review how to read for information from a variety of sources. Some of you are still "copy" "pasting".
