Homework and Last Days' Plans

Homework:

English:
Annotations for the Giver are due tomorrow. These are the quotes and your thinking pages.

Dystopian Short Stories should be planned out by tomorrow. We will pick these up in the New Year.

Plans for Thursday and Friday:

Thursday AM we will have one block of festive centres. Mrs Abell wants you to complete projects so there will be a component of academics.

Thursday PM we will view and review the 2014 film version of  The Giver. This is a marked activity.

Friday AM class gift grab.

Friday PM Talent Show.

Please bring in the Report Card envelopes. They need to be signed by your parent(s)/guardians.

Bring canned and dry goods in for our "food fight" food drive.

Tuesday, Field Trip to Victoria and IMAX (Bring those permission forms and $12 in tomorrow).

Academics:

English: 
We will continue reading and annotating The Giver and we will break into discussion groups. You will be given time to work on your Dystopian short stories. Rough drafts will be due on January 11th. You will be required to go through the peer editing and proofreading process before submitting the neat copies on January 15th (So, you need to demonstrate process or your neat copy will not be accepted).

S.S.:
We will look at and map the spread of Christianity across Europe in the Middle Ages.


French:
You will be given time to complete your adjective poems for submission.

The Weekend



Well, one of your Dystopic stories could be on a future society that loses electric power because this afternoon would have given you some idea of what that would look like, chaos.

Your homework:

English:
1. Read to Chapter 16 of The Giver. You will be asked to finish the book by Wednesday next week. If you like to read at a slower pace, you were given the opportunity to take the book home for the weekend.

2. Annotate the book by Wednesday, December 16th: Minimum 9 quotes and thinking. An A is 21 quotes and detailed analysis/thinking.

Bring your Field Trip Permission Form and $12 in by Monday!

In class work becomes homework if did not use class time wisely. If you were away, the work doesn't go away. You are responsible for it.

English: Read The Giver to Chapter 16 by Friday. Anootate (Quotes and Thinking) minimum 3 quotes and connections/ 7 quotes and detailed thinking is considered top notch.

This week December 7th - 11th



Calendar Notes:

Monday is the start of Term 2

Multiples Day on Wednesday - Dress like each other. You could be a set of twins, triplets and beyond. Mrs Abell and I are going to have some fun with this one.

December 18th - Talent Show

Academic Notes:

English: We will continue reading, annotating and discussing the main concepts in The Giver. You will be reviewing how to use quotations in your writing because you will be developing your own Dystopic community and writing a short story about it.

S.S.: We will be looking at the shift from polytheist to monotheist religion in Europe. We will explore the Jewish, Christian and Islamic faiths; our focus will be on how religion was a force of change in the middle ages and continues to be an influencial factor in world politics.

French: You will be tested on the verb etre. We will be using that verb with adjectives to describe ourselves.
