April 30th

So some of you still need to bring in those permission slips and deposits. Better late than never. This is going to be a great experience.

Tomorrow we will tackle the Freezy sales algebraic problem. How much do we need to sell to get the profit we want?

For today's entry, tell me the best kind of freezie to buy.

April 29th

Tomorrow is the deadline for camp deposits. We are asking for cheques, but cash is also accepted. I am applying for grants to help fund the camp so please email or contact me, if that grant would be the difference between you going or not going to camp. We can also sell freezies to our captive market and raise funds that way. What do you think? I could bring them for Thursday when it is supposed to be steaming hot. You could make an algebraic expression to calculate profits.

What would the algebraic expression to determine our profits look like? Answer for an entry. We will look at this in Math tomorrow.

April 28th

The Mona Lisa, an example of  Renaissance art....although this is clearly poking a little fun at the work.

It is not quite time to put your feet up like Mona here. Many of you owe assignments, you know who you are and what you need to complete thanks to keeping your own mark books. What? Not keeping one of those. It is not too late. Come see me at lunch and I will show you how.

Keep those permission forms and deposits coming in, this coming Wednesday is the deadline.

Today's word is: Renaissance.

Tell me about a camping adventure for an entry tomorrow. Don't forget to bring in your forms tomorrow with a 50.00 deposit. We are going to have a lot of fun that you will remember until you are old like me.

April 23rd

For an entry, tell me what this photo is demonstrating, scientifically speaking.

Please make sure that your parents have been shown the permission form that went home on Tuesday. The due date for the deposit is on April 30th.

I was very impressed by the rugby girls and their play this afternoon. I need some photos of the faces they make as they run down the field with the ball; man, they are fierce. Well done, ladies.

Tomorrow is exploratories. Marc, wear your mucky shoes this time! It will be wet and very muddy so dress appropriately.

April 22nd

(Time to pump up your brrrraiiinnnnns!)

Camp notices went home today for both divisions 1 and 2. Please return the slips and the deposit by April 30th, thank you so much. I will post a copy to the parents' link for those of you who left this notice in the class and for those of you were away.

Today's letter is: "X" for an entry to the draw.

This week, April 22nd to April 25th

This week I will be sending home a permission and deposit notice for camp in June. This will be due on April 30th.

Academic notes:

Math - Algebra review --"Don't Panic" you have been doing algebra since grade one only nobody had the heart to tell you.
Science - Lenses and Refraction -- Thank goodness for lenses, without them I would be unable to read.
Social Studies - We will study the biography of an exceptional, medieval woman, Joan of Arc. She knew her weapons and worked her strategy to move those pesky British out of France. Not bad for a peasant, a teen and a woman all points that would ordinarily be working against her in her time.

For today's entry, tell me what you got up to this weekend. I went to Vancouver to hang out with my family. They live beside UBC and I checked out the campus with my kids. Whoa has it changed since I went there. Talk about fancy.

Math Unit ... Review tomorrow. I say this for all my test-o-phobes. I will field questions first thing to clear up any last minute concerns. Remember this math unit has really been a prep for your future. You cannot escape percent, ratio and rate. So you better learn to love them. Today's phrase is: "I love math so much, I want to marry it."

April 14th

Science News Flash -- You will have an opportunity to view a lunar eclipse. This is a massive demonstration of light and shadow with our very own sun as the light source. Hopefully the cloud cover will be such that you can enjoy the show.

I hope you reviewed the wiki pages for the Science Quiz tomorrow. It is a T/F, Fill in the Blank and Long Answer Quiz. All of the questions were reviewed in class and were taken from sources on the wiki.

Today's word is: lunar

This week April 14 to April 17th

A day like today makes me really feel this book title.

So this week...

Calendar Notes:

Wednesday, 3rd Block: Hoop Dance Performance

Thursday AM --Little Buddies visit us for some seasonal fun and for readings from the children's books you wrote (Mr Horner says that some of you might be disappointing your buddy because you have not completed this task).

Academic Notes:

Math - Unit Review and Final on Wednesday for Division 1 and Thursday for Division 2

Social Studies - Siege Machines -- We will build and test some siege machines.

Science - Refraction -- You know that light can bounce off of reflective surfaces, but did you know that it can also bend. There will be a Science check up on Tuesday testing your understanding of: what light is, sources of light and how reflection works.

I will give you an engrade update this week so that you can match your mark book with mine.

Today's word is "chatterbox". And I also have love this book title too because if I wasn't Mrs Bridal...I would be...

April 10th

(I don't recommend we try this type of catapult or that you ever try to catapult a buddy like this!!!!)

Tomorrow we will build a castle of sugar and try to destroy it with Stewart's catapult. Next week, we will build catapults of our own design and I know that some of you are already planning to build some siege weapons at home.

We will be having a Unit 5 Final on Wednesday next week. Many of you have been caught with this bug and have missed lessons. This makes review and connecting with me for extra help very important. I am always willing to make time outside of class to help you, but you need to take advantage of that offer.

We also have the good luck to be invited to a traditional Ditidaht Pit Cook. We will feast the way the local First Nation''s did so bring your appetite! For more information on this tradition, please visit this week's Social Studies link.

I will choose TBHs next week. Today's word is: Ditidaht for an entry to tomorrow's draw.

This is what people think girls Rugby is....scroll down to see what it really is.

Congratulations to our Rugby girls. You were poetry in motion and won all of your games hands down.

Tomorrow is exploratories so come prepared.

This is what girls' Rugby really is like....congratulate these fine, female athletes for an entry.

April 8th

Describe this tapestry section to me for an entry. Tomorrow, we discuss offensive weapons of the middle ages. Quite impressive how war inspires human innovation...although slightly disappointing.

April 7th

Just a note that tomorrow is the second half of the "Sexual Health" presentation. Mr. MacRae will be hosting the talk as a part of his Health and Career course. He wants to remind you about your "Drug Awareness" presentations which he will ask you to give tomorrow as well. The goal of all of this discussion is promoting healthy lifestyles which generally spell into happy, balanced lives.

The phrase of the day is: "Mr MacRae, you are marvelous and look on the Math course link for the Math lesson" Please tell him to give you a ticket and put the phrase on it and into the entry box. You can just write the word "marvelous". :-)

This week, April 7th to 11th

I am back on Monday. Many thanks to Mr Whyte for coming in and putting on a great show complete with gunpowder. Now, how am I ever going to top that?

The school board won't allow me to play with atomic energy so there is no topping gunpowder.

Calendar Notes:
Tuesday: Sexual Health Workshop II (Div 2 Block 2 and Div 1 Block 5)
Thursday: Exploratories start so come dressed appropriately
Friday: Our neighbourhood will get to experience a Pit Cook which promises to be both delicious and informative.

Academic Notes:
I will be meshing with what you did with Mr. Whyte so I will update the course links on Monday afternoon. As it stands, we will be covering the following general topics:

Math: Ratio Review and an introduction to the concept of rate.
S.S.: The 100 Years War, more lessons from the past.
Science: The properties of light.

Today's word is: explosive
